Sunday 4th October: The Upper Castle Park

11.30 The day is inaugurated by the Mayor, the Town Crier and the Town Watch with special guest Souad Farress.  Souad is a stage, radio, television and film actress, born in Ghana to Irish and Syrian parents, who is now best known within the United Kingdom for her portrayal of the solicitor Usha Gupta, in the long-running BBC Radio 4 serial The Archers. Souad will be happy to meet fans of the Archers in the Red Lion Books Spoken Word tent.

14.00 Performance poetry from blind poet “Queen Carib” Michelle Taylor, who has already won great acclaim for her imaginative stage act, where the playful, mischievous quality of her poetry can be experienced at it's best. Her native island Trinidad, in the Caribbean Sea gives her that Latin American Twang to her poems.

IN THE FRONT OF THE CASTLE
13.00 Samba Drumming from Boudica School of Samba, an authentic Brazilian-led Rio Samba drumming band who lead outreach projects, workshops & Carnival arts of Brazil in schools of Suffolk & Essex.
14.00 A choral concert from Quire: Formed five years ago out of a music class at Greyfriars Adult Education, Quire, Colchester’s community choir and singing sensation, continually grows and now has over 60 magnificent voices. Today they will be singing songs from all over the world.
15.00 The Colchester  Training Band is part of the Colchester Band who have been in existence since 1860 and are regular performers in and around the Colchester area. Our training band is lead by Anne Ruddock BA (Hons) Music, a brass instrumental teacher for Essex and Southend Music Services.

14.45 “The Battle of Maldon” reenacted by the amazing Addrian with medieval audiovisual aids. Not to be missed!
