Calling everyone and anyone from any country in the world living in the East of England! Can you sing or play the music or perform the dance of your mother country in a traditional way? Can you tell the traditional stories and poetry or teach the traditional games, dances and sports? Would you like to sing your national songs? Are you a trader or caterer with a market stall, selling international foods and crafts or fabrics and ethnic clothes? Or would like space to make an exhibition just to be proud of the achievements your mother country?
It doesn't matter what your age or background is or how long your family has been living in Britain, we would like to hear from you so that we can invite you to take part in our event “Colchester's Global Heritage" on October 3rd and 4th .
The Gift Project -Unwarapping Colchester" is a unique collaboration between the Mercury Theatre, the Arts Centre, Firstsite, the Colchester Gazette, Colchester 2020, the Borough Council and ourselves and all the other arts providers in the area. It consist of an entire month of events and performances, which we are offering the people of the town as a "Gift" from us to them as a thank you for supporting the arts so well for so may years. The whole project brochure can be downloaded: see the box to the left.
Illuminati's contribution can be seen on page 12 of the download and is called "Colchester's Global Heritage" and consists of two days of music dance and words from around the world. We have already booked ( or are in the process of confirming) a wide variety of performances and demonstrations, including a world choir, a Gamelan band, Steel Pans, Capoeria, Samba Indian and Chinese dance and all kinds of other performances from every corner of the globe.
Saturday 3rd October takes place around the Town centre, Sunday 4th, a very much larger event takes place in the upper park in "The tent of world dreams", "The spoken word tent" " and "The workshops tent" and in front of the castle.
